Directions to Palmer Hall
From the North: Take I-65 South to the Exit 238. Turn right off the ramp onto Highway 31. At the first traffic light turn left on Highway 119. Take Highway 119 to downtown Montevallo (eleven miles). As you approach Montevallo you will come upon your first traffic signal, immediately after the traffic signal  turn right on Highland Street and the entrance to campus is three blocks ahead.  Once you arrive on campus follow the signs for Palmer Hall and the Admissions Office.  The Admissions Office is located on the first floor of Palmer Hall. Designated tour parking spots are located in the lot beside Palmer Hall.

From the West: Travel I-20/59 East to I-459 by-pass. Continue on I-459 to I-65 South. Take I-65 South to Exit 238. Turn right off the ramp onto Highway 31. The University of Montevallo is proud to announce that it has been named a College of Distinction, one of only four universities in Alabama and the only public institution in the state to receive this designation.

Colleges of Distinction is a web-based guide for high school juniors and seniors seeking a school that is nationally recognized and highly recommended by professionals in the field of education. Colleges and universities are nominated for participation by high school counselors and must excel in four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities and successful outcomes.

The methodology to select a school includes both qualitative and quantitative information. Interviews are conducted with college admission experts, faculty and staff at each accepted college, administrators at other colleges and high school counselors. Also considered are graduation rates, classroom size and other statistics that reflect the four distinctions.

“This recognition from Colleges of Distinction is yet another reflection on the dedication of the faculty, staff and administrators at the University of Montevallo,” said Dr. Michelle Johnston, senior vice president for administrative affairs.

In order to engage students, the University of Montevallo offers a variety of learning experiences such as undergraduate research, study abroad, internships and more. Learning is frequently “hands-on,” and faculty work with students to develop not only as scholars, but also as responsible and productive citizens.

At Montevallo, students are taught, not by graduate students or teaching assistants, but by professors, most of whom hold the terminal degree in their field, who challenge their students and keep their interest. Classes are small, so these professors know their students by name.

Many opportunities for leadership development and co-curricular involvement are available. From student government to athletics, from music and drama to service learning, Colleges of Distinction offer a variety of experiences to allow students to become involved in the campus and local communities.

As you begin making college plans for the Fall Semester of 2013, please note we will begin accepting applications for admission on June 1, 2012. You can apply online here. Once you have applied, you will need to have your official high school transcripts and test scores sent to the Office of Admissions.  You can also learn about scholarships, life on campus, and campus traditions that are anything but traditional. This upcoming year will be one of the most exciting times you’ll ever experience.
