What is S.O.A.R.? (Student Orientation and Registration) S.O.A.R. is a two-step program designed for new students coming to UM. The first step is attending one of the Early Registration Days for new students. During the Early Registration Day, you will:

• Meet with an academic advisor to discuss your program of study and develop a class schedule for your first semester.

• Hear from faculty and staff about classroom experiences and campus services.

• Explore the Montevallo campus with your Orientation Leader and meet fellow UM students.

• Learn about the rich traditions of Montevallo and the next steps to take before your first semester begins.

The second step is the Take Flight Program that takes place four days before classes start and will focus on getting to know other students through campus life events planned especially for you, participating in a community service activity, and learning strategies to succeed in and out of the classroom. You will be receiving more information on Take Flight during your Early Registration Day.

There is also a Parent Program during Early Registration Day for parents of entering students. While the parent program is not mandatory, parents are strongly encouraged to attend the program.

To register for your Early Registration Day, please fill out and submit the information below. You will receive an email confirmation of your registration once it is reviewed by an admission counselor.

From the North: Take I-65 South to the Exit 238. Turn right off the ramp onto Highway 31. At the first traffic light turn left on Highway 119. Take Highway 119 South to Montevallo (eleven miles). At the first traffic light turn right onto Nabors Street.  At the second stop sign turn right onto Plowman Street; Plowman Street will become College Drive.  The McChesney Student Activity Center will be on your right.

From the South: Take I-65 North to Exit 231. Turn right onto Highway 31 North. Take Highway 31 to County Road 22. Turn left on Highway 22 and travel to Highway 119. Turn left on Highway 119 South to Montevallo (eleven miles). At the first traffic light turn right onto Nabors Street.  At the second stop sign turn right onto Plowman Street; Plowman Street will become College Drive.  The McChesney Student Activity Center will be on your right.
